OṂ TĀRE TUTTĀRE TURE SOHA is the mantra of Tara, the chief female deity of both Mahayana Buddhism, where she is considered a Bodhisattva, and of Vajrayana Buddhism, the esoteric Tantric Buddhism, where Tara is seen as a female Buddha and is one of the more important meditational deities. Her name in Sanskrit means to cross or crossing and, more specifically, the act of wading a river, which, in Buddhist symbolism, is interpreted as the passage from Samsara to Nirvana. For this reason, Tara is called the "Mother of Liberation". In addition to her esoteric meaning as personification of enlightened consciousness, Tara's mantra is recited with fervor by Buddhists who seek help or intercession even for worldly problems, since Tara is regarded as the living incarnation of the Buddha's Compassion.

OṂ TĀRE TUTTĀRE TURE SOHA é o mantra de Tara, a principal divindade feminina tanto do Budismo Mahayana, onde ela é considerada um Bodhisattva, quanto do Budismo Vajrayana, o esotérico Budismo Tântrico, onde Tara é vista como um Buda feminino e é uma das mais importantes deidades meditacionais. Seu nome em sânscrito significa cruzar ou atravessar e, mais especificamente, o ato de vadear um rio, o que, no simbolismo budista, é interpretado como a passagem do Samsara para o Nirvana. Por esse motivo, Tara é chamada de “Mãe da Libertação”. Além de seu significado esotérico como personificação da consciência iluminada, o mantra de Tara é recitado com fervor pelos budistas que buscam auxílio ou intercessão mesmo para os problemas mundanos, uma vez que Tara é considerada como a encarnação viva da Compaixão do Buda.
