OM NAMAH SHIVAYA is the mantra of Shiva, one of the leading Indian deities. In the more mainstream Hindu pantheon, Shiva is part of the Trimurti, the Three Aspects of Brahman ruling the universe: next to Brahma the Creator, and Vishnu, the Maintainer, Shiva is the Destroyer, in charge of dissolving calcified and stagnant forms to give way to the new.

In addition to his role in Hinduism, Shiva has his own cult, Shaivism, whose most important center is in Kashmir, that of Led Zeppelin's song. Combining ritual, meditation, and yoga, Kashmir Shaivism has become one of the leading schools of non-dualism. To the Shaiva, Shiva is a living symbol of the highest level of consciousness, the Non-Dual Consciousness, which is also the Absolute Reality.

It is to this latter sense of Shiva that the music tries to pay homage.

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA é o mantra de Shiva, uma das principais divindades indianas. No panteão hindu mais mainstream, Shiva faz parte da Trimurti, os Três Aspectos de Brahman que regem o universo: ao lado de Brahma, o Criador, e Vishnu, o Mantenedor, Shiva é o Destruidor, encarregado de dissolver as formas calcificadas e estanques para dar lugar ao novo.

Além de seu papel no Hinduísmo, Shiva tem seu próprio culto, o Shaivismo, cujo centro mais importante fica em Kashmir, aquela da música do Led Zeppelin. Combinando ritual, meditação e yoga, o Shaivismo de Kashmir se tornou uma das principais escolas do não-dualismo. Para os Shaiva, Shiva é um símbolo vivo do nível mais elevado de consciência, a Consciência Não-Dual, que é também a Realidade Absoluta.

É a este último sentido de Shiva que a música tenta prestar homenagem.
