With his elephant head, friendly, plump and funny, Ganesha is one of the most popular Hindu gods in the world, invoked at the beginning of any endeavor to bring good luck and remove obstacles in the way. Ganesha is also the god of literature, of the performing arts and, invoked under the name of Nṝitya Gaṇapati, who inspired the name of this track, is the patron of dance and music.

According to Hindu mythology, Ganesha was born with a normal human head but, as a child, was beheaded by Shiva, for reasons that vary according to the different versions of the story. Shocking as it may seem at first glance, the myth has an important esoteric meaning. In tantra, decapitation symbolizes transcending the ego, and the elephant is a personification of OM, ॐ, the primordial cosmic vibration that originates all worlds. Having the human head torn off and replaced by an elephant's head is nothing less than an allegory of Enlightenment, the replacement of the limited perspective of the individual ego by Brahman's cosmic, universal consciousness.

When Ganesha dances, it is this cosmic consciousness that dances, and it is its dance that we perceive as the world.
